Interface terms and features

Routing, subscriptions, and Settings

First, confirm how traffic is handled, then check connection details. These six items are ordered by typical use. English labels match the app interface; descriptions explain their purpose.

Global Routing

  • ConfigUse configuration rules
  • ProxyProxy mode
  • DirectDirect mode

Global Routing determines how connections are handled. Config applies the policies defined by the active configuration; Proxy and Direct switch the overall traffic-handling mode. Before using the app, confirm that your existing server details are valid, then choose the mode that fits your task. If your configuration includes routing rules but another mode is selected, traffic may not behave as expected. When troubleshooting, note the current selection, change one condition at a time, and use Log to check how a connection is handled. Do not rely on the toggle state alone to determine whether a setting is working.

Configure DNS, sync, and widgets after confirming a basic connection

DNS in Settings affects how domain names are resolved; rules determine which policy handles a connection. Consider them separately. If an address is reachable but its domain is not, start by checking resolution. If the domain resolves to an address but the connection still fails, check server settings, routing mode, and the destination's response. Avoid changing DNS, protocol type, and the entire configuration at the same time to troubleshoot one site, or it will be difficult to identify what made a difference.

iCloud Sync keeps supported app data consistent across eligible devices; it is not a substitute for a separate backup. Before enabling it, check which configurations are currently stored on each device, and follow the prompts carefully when data may be replaced or merged. Widget provides a quick way to view and use selected features, but initial setup should be completed in the app. Defaults are those currently shown in the app. For details on each option, when to use it, and how to verify a change, read the Settings reference.

Devices and App Store

Getting Shadowrocket on iPhone and iPad

Shadowrocket is available to buy and install only through the App Store. Check the product page, then confirm device compatibility and the Apple Account currently in use. Refer to the App Store page for system requirements and the scope of universal purchase.

Shadowrocket is also available through the same App Store on Mac and Apple TV. Refer to the App Store page for compatibility and the scope of universal purchase.

First-use checklist

  1. Verify the product first. Check the developer, official icon, and app ID to confirm that you are viewing the Shadowrocket App Store product page. If the app does not appear in search results, check the account's storefront; do not assume another app with a similar name is the same product.
  2. Then import your existing details. In Home, use Add Server to enter an existing server or subscription. After saving, check that the entry type and group are as expected. A successful import only means the data was read; you still need to test the connection.
  3. Finally, connect and check the results. Choose the appropriate Global Routing mode, turn on the connection, respond to any system permission prompt, then visit a specific destination and check Log. Change one setting at a time and keep the test steps repeatable.

Your app purchase history, in-app configuration, and system VPN configuration are three separate things. Redownloading the app does not restore every subscription or rule, and a VPN status in system settings does not mean a particular destination is reachable. Before switching devices, separately confirm the purchase account, configuration backup, and availability of existing subscriptions. For import instructions, continue to the getting started guide.

App Store verification and purchase details

Verify the app first, then distinguish the purchase from connection services

Shadowrocket Getting Started is the website and official manual for Shadowrocket. The app is a closed-source commercial product. When obtaining it, check the product identity, price, compatibility, and purchase history shown in the App Store.

Shadow Launch Technology Limited App ID 932747118 One-time purchase

Verify the developer, icon, and app ID together

Search for Shadowrocket in the App Store and open its product page; do not rely only on the name in search results. The developer should be Shadow Launch Technology Limited, the icon should match the official icon shown in this site's header, and the app ID in the product link should be 932747118. All three should match. A nickname or similar-looking icon is not a substitute for verifying the product identity.

Even when you open the App Store from this site's link, check the product name and developer again before paying. The description, compatibility details, and purchase button on the product page help confirm which app you are viewing; search result snippets may not reflect the current listing. For a step-by-step check, see how to verify the app before proceeding with your purchase.

App Store availability and account region

The apps shown in the App Store depend on the country or region associated with your Apple Account. If Shadowrocket does not appear in search, first check the account and its region under Media & Purchases in system settings, then confirm that you are viewing the expected storefront. Device language, webpage language, and the purchasing account's region are separate settings; changing one does not confirm that the storefront has changed.

If you plan to change your account region, review the system prompts and check requirements such as your balance, existing subscriptions, and payment method. Do not overlook other purchases on your account just to find an app. App availability and price vary by storefront; check the current App Store page. For details, see Apple Account region and App Store availability.

One-time purchase price

Shadowrocket is a one-time purchase. The US storefront reference price is $2.99; other storefronts show local currency, and the actual amount is shown on the App Store purchase page. This charge is for the client and should not be confused with the status of an existing service subscription. Verify the app before paying, then check your purchase history to confirm the transaction.

The validity, data allowance, and server availability of an existing subscription depend on the relevant service and do not change automatically when you repurchase or reinstall the client. If a connection fails, first determine whether the app is installed, the subscription can update, and the server is reachable, then decide which layer to investigate. Buying the app again is not a connection troubleshooting step.

Purchases and redownloads with the same account

To use Shadowrocket on iPhone and iPad, first make sure the App Store is signed in with the Apple Account used for the original purchase, then look for Shadowrocket in your purchased items. Refer to the App Store page for device compatibility and the scope of universal purchase and Family Sharing; do not infer eligibility from the device name. If the store still shows a price, check the account and purchase history before paying again.

Redownloading restores eligibility to get the app; it does not mean that in-app subscriptions, server entries, and personal configurations have all been restored. Before changing devices, check whether a usable backup exists and what the sync feature actually includes. After restoring, review the Home list, active Config, and Global Routing, then test a manual connection.

Updates are managed through the App Store

App updates are delivered through the App Store. Manage automatic updates in system settings as needed. If you are troubleshooting a connection, record relevant settings and the steps to reproduce the issue before updating, and keep a copy of your configuration. After the update, check your existing entries, active configuration, and permission status. App controls may move; find features by their English interface labels rather than fixed tap coordinates.

This homepage does not list specific version numbers or update dates. For current release details, check the App Store version history and in-app notes. System requirements are also listed on the App Store page; do not rely on outdated system requirements in older guides when deciding whether to buy or update.

Permission prompts and system VPN configuration

The first time you start a connection, the system may ask to add a VPN configuration. This authorization allows the app to establish the relevant network connection; it is separate from App Store payment. Confirm that the prompt followed an action you initiated, then follow the device instructions. If you previously declined, try starting the connection again in the app and check the system status.

VPN & Device Management in system settings can help you review added configurations, but do not delete them in bulk unless you know what they are for. If you remove one by mistake, initiate the authorization again from the app. If the status bar shows a connection but access still fails, check the destination connection, server settings, and rule logs. See why Shadowrocket asks to add a VPN configuration.

Popular questions: choose a guide by symptom

Why check Global Routing after importing?

Importing saves server or subscription details in the app; Global Routing determines how connections are handled. To use routing rules, make sure Config is selected and the correct configuration is active. Proxy and Direct provide different traffic-handling modes. Check the current mode first, then see whether a rule matches. For details, read the getting started guide.

Why can a destination still be unreachable when Connectivity Test responds?

Connectivity Test results depend on the selected test method and do not reflect the full access path to every destination. Choose a specific destination, test it again, and check Log for DNS resolution, policy selection, and connection errors. Keep the network and server unchanged for comparison. See frequently asked questions.

What do Subscribe and Config each store?

Subscribe is mainly for fetching and managing server entries provided remotely; Config manages rules and related settings. Updating a subscription does not switch the active configuration, and importing a configuration does not automatically provide a working server. If two options have similar names, first identify the type of data you are handling. See the glossary.

Which settings should I check first when troubleshooting a connection?

First check the purchase and installation, whether an existing subscription is valid, the selected server, and the current mode. Then review the connection record for a specific destination. Before confirming a basic connection, avoid changing On Demand, DNS, and sync settings all at once. Change one item at a time and keep its original value. For what each option does and how to verify it, see the Settings reference.
